Private DNS is the Android setting that names the DNS resolver your phone uses on every network, and it is the fastest place to look when the lobby address will not resolve. You enter a hostname once and the phone uses it on Wi-Fi and mobile data alike. This page covers the setting only; the errors it can clear are on the ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT fix list.
Everything here is for Chrome or another browser on the phone, part of the mobile gaming browser fixes set. Nothing is installed.
What Private DNS does on Android
Android’s help shows three choices on the Private DNS screen.
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Off | The phone does not use a private resolver |
| Automatic | The phone uses whatever the network offers |
| Private DNS provider hostname | The phone uses the resolver you name |
Set Private DNS step by step
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Network & internet, then Private DNS. Cloudflare’s setup page puts it under Advanced on some Android 9 and later phones.
- Select Private DNS provider hostname.
- Enter the hostname from the sections below and tap Save.
Cloudflare DNS hostname
Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 setup page for Android says to enter one.one.one.one in the provider hostname field. Type it exactly, in lowercase, with dots between the words.
Google DNS hostname
Google Public DNS documentation for Android 9 and later says to enter dns.google as the hostname of the DNS provider. Use one hostname at a time: Cloudflare’s or Google’s, never both in the same field.
1.1.1.1 DNS: the numbers and the name
Cloudflare’s page lists 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 as its IPv4 addresses, and Google lists 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. The Private DNS field takes a hostname, so enter one.one.one.one or dns.google there. The addresses are for the older manual DNS setting on a single Wi-Fi network.
| Provider | Hostname for the Private DNS field | IPv4 addresses |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | one.one.one.one | 1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1 |
| dns.google | 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 |
Check that it worked
- Turn Wi-Fi off and on once.
- Open Chrome and reload the lobby address, jililuck.com.
- Confirm the page: the JILILUCK wordmark top left, the Abiso 21+ notice with its accept button (Tanggapin on desktop, I AGREE on a phone), and the Mag-login and Magrehistro pair.
- If Chrome now warns about a certificate, read what your connection is not private means before you go on.
Turn Private DNS back to Automatic
- Return to Settings, Network & internet, Private DNS.
- Pick Automatic or Off.
- Tap Save.
