A roulette table prints every bet you can make, and each printed patch has a fixed payout. This page reads that layout from the zero pockets out to the dozens. It belongs to the wider wider table games online reference reference, so every figure here is the standard rule of the game. A table’s own paytable is the final word on any variant.

The roulette table layout: wheel and grid

The wheel holds numbered pockets and the grid prints those same numbers for placing chips. A single-zero wheel has 37 pockets (0 to 36) and a double-zero wheel has 38 (0, 00 and 1 to 36). Eighteen numbers are red and eighteen are black, and zero is green.

WheelPocketsZero pockets
Single-zero370
Double-zero380 and 00

The grid is three columns by twelve rows of numbers 1 to 36, with zero at the top. The boxes around the grid hold the outside bets.

Roulette table inside bets: numbers on the grid

Inside bets are placed on or between numbers. Fewer numbers means a bigger payout.

BetNumbers coveredPays
Straight up135 to 1
Split2 (chip on the line)17 to 1
Street3 (end of a row)11 to 1
Corner4 (chip at the corner)8 to 1
Six line6 (two rows)5 to 1

An example with ₱100 on a straight-up number: if it hits, you win ₱3,500 and keep your ₱100 stake. If any other pocket hits, the ₱100 is gone.

Roulette table outside bets: the boxes around the grid

Outside bets cover large groups of numbers and pay less.

BetNumbers coveredPays
Red or black181 to 1
Odd or even181 to 1
High (19 to 36) or low (1 to 18)181 to 1
Dozen (1st, 2nd, 3rd twelve)122 to 1
Column (one of three)122 to 1

Zero belongs to none of the outside boxes. When the ball lands on zero, a plain table pays none of the 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 bets.

Why the zero pockets keep the house edge

Pay is calculated as if the wheel had 36 numbers, but the wheel has 37 or 38 pockets. That gap is the house edge, and you can compute it yourself from the layout. Read the what house edge measures page for what the term covers.

A worked example: stake ₱100 on every number on a single-zero wheel, which is ₱3,700. One number wins, paying 35 to 1, so ₱3,500 profit plus the ₱100 stake returns ₱3,600. The wheel keeps ₱100 of ₱3,700, which is 1 in 37 or about 2.7 percent. On a double-zero wheel the same sweep stakes ₱3,800 and still returns ₱3,600, so the wheel keeps ₱200 of ₱3,800, or about 5.3 percent.

Named bets on the French layout

Some tables print a racetrack beside the grid for bets that cover sections of the wheel rather than the grid. The common ones are Voisins du Zero, Tiers du Cylindre and Orphelins. Each is a bundle of chips placed on a set of neighbouring pockets, so the racetrack shows which pockets each bundle covers.

Named betWhat it covers
Voisins du ZeroThe pockets around zero on the wheel
Tiers du CylindreThe opposite third of the wheel
OrphelinsThe pockets left between the two

How to place a roulette bet from start to finish

FAQ

What is the difference between inside and outside bets?

Inside bets sit on the number grid and cover one to six numbers, so they pay more and win less often. Outside bets sit around the grid and cover 12 or 18 numbers for smaller odds.

How many pockets does a roulette wheel have?

A single-zero wheel has 37 pockets, numbered 0 to 36. A double-zero wheel adds a 00 pocket and has 38. The table's layout shows which one you are playing.

What happens to red or black bets when the ball lands on zero?

They lose on a plain table. Some tables return half the stake or hold it for the next spin, and the table's rules screen names which rule applies.

Ilang numero ang kaya kong ilagay ng chip sa isang taya?

Isa hanggang anim sa inside bets, at 12 o 18 sa outside bets. Mas maraming numero ang sakop, mas maliit ang bayad.
